Commonly known as hydrous kaolin, this clay-based mineral is the layered form of silicate mineral. White Kaolin Clay Powder is free from smell. It shows inertness when exposed to chemicals. Excellent chemical resistance properties, crack prevention capacity, unique opacity level, and ability to maintain the smoothness of applied surface are its key features. Better scrub resistance properties, good shear thinning attributes, rustproof, and exceptional tinting strength are some of its main factors. It easily dissolves in water-based paints. Its properties can be modified by the calcination process under more than 1100 degrees C temperature. Calcination improves abrasion resistance capacity, whiteness, and hardness of china clay. Calcined clay is preferred for the formulation of matt based coatings and paints.
This powder is formed as a result of the chemical weathering of feldspar. As part of its other production procedures, it is excavated from rocks and then its impurities are washed (to be precise, elutriated) by applying water. Large-sized rock particles containing kaolin are sorted and dried.
Process
Blunging
The Kaolin Clay is mixed with water to create a milk-shake-like slurry. The slurry is simply the water and dispersed clay mixture, which puts the clay particles in suspension.
De-gritting
The slurried Kaolin Clay is usually transported through pipelines to de-gritting facilities, where sand, mica, & other impurities are extracted with the help of gravity.
Solid-Liquid Separation
We feed 35-40% solid concentration slurry into the filter press by stroke pumps to separate water out of the slurry. Due to the stickiness of the clay, we go up to 8 kg/cm2 pressure.
Filtering & Brightness
With both the fine and coarse Kaolin Clay particle fractions, brightness is enhanced through one or move processes which will remove iron, titanium, organic, and other undesirable materials.
Drying
The wet cake having moisture 8 – 12% comes in contact with hot drying air in the cage mill & gets conveyed to cyclone through dryer flash ducts & the drying takes place in cage mill & flash duct.
Powdering and Packing
After Sun-drying we break the cakes into small sizes max 5” or powder as per the requirement of the customer. We make powder by hammer grinding mill.
